The virtue of reciting the Qur'an and mentioning some of its characteristics.

The Shaykh : The Qur'an has characteristics, my brothers. What speech, other than the Qur'an, is one to worship Allah by reciting? There is none. That is, you may read the words of the jurists, you may read the words of the people of creed, you may read any speech, and worship Allah by reciting it, and for every letter you receive a good deed? There is none except the Qur'an. Did sleep come to you? Well, is there any speech that one worships by reciting, or not? Here, except the speech of Allah. May Allah bless you.
The Noble Qur'an, if you recite it and you do not know its meaning, you recite it in a mere recitation, for every letter you receive a good deed. Subhan Allah! Every letter a good deed? Answer, yes. This is how it came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). How many letters are in the word "Rabb"?[Al-Fatihah 1:2]. The word "Rabb," how many letters is it? Brother, stand up. "Rabb" is three letters? Write it, it is right in front of you, write it. This is my hand, a blackboard, write it. Ra, Ra, and then Ba. Complete it. Ra, Ba, how many letters? Look at the blackboard, man, how many? That is, a doubled letter is two letters. May Allah bless you. Perfect. The doubled letter is two letters. "Rabb al-'Alamin" is three letters, in which are three good deeds, each good deed multiplied by ten. How many good deeds? How many? Thirty good deeds, my brothers. May Allah not deprive us of His bounty. How can we delay in reciting the Qur'an when there is this reward? O Allah, purify our hearts, O Lord of the Worlds.
Every letter is a good deed, and the good deed is multiplied by ten. Other speech is not like that.
What speech is it whose recitation in the prayers is obligatory? What is it? Yes? That is a dead answer. What is it that its recitation in the prayers must be obligatory? Yes? The Qur'an. The genre of the Qur'an, meaning it is not necessary to be the whole bookJami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam). There is no speech, nor the speech of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), whose recitation in the prayer is obligatory, ever, except the Qur'an. And this is because of the greatness of its status, for it is the speech of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam). Is there no small child who recites the opening of the book for us? Is there a small child? There is none, in any case, you all know it. Yes, come, recite al-Fatihah. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
The student:[Al-Fatihah 1:2-7].
The Shaykh : You did well, perfect, rest. And so, happy for Ka'b ibn Malik, Hilaal ibn Umayyah, and the third, Mararah ibn al-Rabi', that their story is recited in the prayer. Who are they? The three who were left behind. They lagged behind Tabuk without an excuse, so Allah revealed these verses about them, and perhaps we will have an opportunity to speak about their story.
Among the characteristics of the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is that it contains healing. It contains healing from diseases of the hearts and diseases of the bodies and limbs. Are you with me? It contains healing from diseases of the hearts, and secondly, diseases of the bodies.
Diseases of the hearts: if the heart becomes hard, then you must turn to reciting the Qur'an. If a matter is difficult for you and you have the ability to derive rulings, then you must turn to the Qur'an. How many matters are difficult for a person, he looks through the books of the jurists, in every book he searches for the matter, he looks through it and does not find it, he returns to the Qur'an and finds it present in the Qur'an. I say this from experience, not in order to exalt the Qur'an. The Qur'an does not need exalting. Whether I exalted it or not. But from experience. And for this, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:[Sad 38:29] Why? Blessed, why [Sad 38:29]. The Qur'an is healing for the hearts. Diseases of the hearts, and secondly, diseases of the bodies. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: [Yunus 10:57]. How many people have had their hearts become hard, then they recited the Qur'an, and Allah softened their hearts! Listen to the example that Allah struck so that you may be convinced. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: [Al-Hashr 59:21] What? [Al-Hashr 59:21]. The mountain becomes humble, it cracks, it breaks apart if the Qur'an descends upon it. Well, and if it descends upon the heart? Yes, it softens, its hardness is removed. And for this, Ibn 'Abd al-Qawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his famous Daliyyah poem:
"And keep to the lesson of the Qur'an, for it *** Softens a hard heart like a rock".
Some verses, when the reciter recites them, you would wish to remain for all time reciting them. You find pleasure, and the heart is delighted and rejoices for these verses, and it softens. But if a person recites in heedlessness, the effect is little.
O Allah, soften our hearts with Your remembrance and Your speech, O Lord of the Worlds.
As for it being healing for diseases of the bodies, listen to the story. It is a real story in the two Sahihs and others: A group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought hospitality from a people, and the meaning of seeking hospitality is that they stayed as guests with them. So the people refused to host them, saying there is no hospitality. So these people withdrew to a side and sat. Then Allah sent a very venomous scorpion upon their leader, which stung the leader, and it was very severe for him. So they said: Who will recite for this man? Their leader. They said: Perhaps these people who stayed with you have a reciter. So they sent to the Companions, saying: Come, our leader has been stung, is there among you one who can perform ruqyah? He said: Yes. One of them said: Yes, I will recite for him. Listen, man. Who is he reciting for? For the leader of the people who was stung. So he came and began to recite for him Surat al-Fatihah only. Surat al-Fatihah only, which you heard from your son the boy.[Al-Fatihah 1:2] to the end. So the man stood up as if he had been untied from a rope, meaning as if a camel had been released from its tether, and he walked. So these people from the Companions said: We do not perform ruqyah for your leader except if you give us a flock of sheep. They said: Take a flock of sheep, there is no problem. They took the flock of sheep and drove it with them.
And look at the scrupulousness, my brothers, look at the scrupulousness, the scrupulousness of the Companions. They said: We cannot eat from it until we seek permission from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). So they came to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the matter. He said: Eat. What? Brother, come, I find you inattentive. From where do they eat? From what do they eat? Ah? Did he offer a feast? I see you are distracted. You are distracted, do not be distracted, rest. Well. Please.
The student: ... .
The Shaykh : This flock of sheep, this is perfect, rest. He said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2064Sahih (Darussalam). May Allah send prayers and peace upon him. This is the teaching, my brothers. Did he say: Give me a share with you because I am hungry? No, we do not think so. But so that they would be reassured that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) ate from it, so that they would be reassured, he ate. Then he said to the man who recited al-Fatihah: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2064Sahih (Darussalam) Meaning, what taught you that it is ruqyah? So if you want to recite for the sick, you must do what? Al-Fatihah. Recite for him. But there must be belief in the reciter and belief in the one for whom it is recited. The reciter believes that it will benefit by the permission of Allah, and the one for whom it is recited believes that it will benefit him by the permission of Allah, not by way of trial, not by way of experiment, it does not benefit. By way of experiment, it does not benefit.
Here there are three things: a place capable of being affected, an influencer, and an actor. - Pay attention, man - There must be three things: an actor, a place capable, what? An influencer.
Now let us give you an example. A man has a sword, and he is brave, very, very brave. Yes, but the sword is all chipped, a chip that does not cut even flesh. Does this sword benefit? Yes? It does not benefit, and even if he is brave, it does not benefit. Well, another man has a sword sharp as lightning, but he is a coward, a coward. If he sees the brave man, he falls in his hand and the sword falls from his hand. Does the sword benefit or not? It does not benefit. Well, this actor is not suitable, and the first influencer is not suitable. Well, a man is brave, this last one is brave and has a sharp sword, he came to a pillar, thinking it is an enemy, and he began to strike the pillar with the sword, he strikes the pillar, but the pillar is not affected. And what is different now? The place is not capable. So if a patient is brought to a man who recites, but he does not believe that it benefits, he says: I went to such-and-such a doctor, and the doctor, and the surgeon, none of them knew how this benefits? This one cannot benefit from the Qur'an. Or a man recites but he is doubtful about the matter, it does not benefit. Or a man recites with things that are not lawful, this does not benefit. And if it benefits, it is from the Shayatins who deceive him. Well.
The important thing is that we return to the Qur'an. Among the characteristics of the Qur'an is that it is a healing for diseases of the heart or the body, or both? Both. Good. Among the characteristics of the Qur'an is this great effect it has on its carrier. The carrier of the Qur'an, if he believes in it and acts upon it, will be affected; his faith will be affected, his deeds will be affected, his morals will be affected, everything will be affected. Look at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); if someone asked you, "Who is the best of people in character?" What would you say, everyone? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Aisha said: . By Allah, if we were to read the Qur'an and recite it with true recitation, our entire society would change. But most people read it for the reward and for seeking blessing. Good, this great effect is not found except in the Noble Qur'an. And so now we read it. We repeat it at least three times a month, and yet we do not get tired of it. We do not get tired of it. Every time we read it again, it is as if it is a new verse.
And for this reason, one of the descriptions of the Qur'an is that it does not become worn out from much repetition. And what does "does not become worn out" mean? It means it does not become old or exhausted from much repetition, and this is not found in anything other than the Qur'an.
The Noble Qur'an, if you recite it and you do not know its meaning, you recite it in a mere recitation, for every letter you receive a good deed. Subhan Allah! Every letter a good deed? Answer, yes. This is how it came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). How many letters are in the word "Rabb"?
